![]() There are some minor cosmetic differences, but I don't see any substantive differences between paying $4.99 for Business Card Reader and paying $2.99 + $1.99 for CardHolder.ĪBBYY was founded in 1989 by David Yang, Ph.D. ABBYY CardHolder costs $2.99 and lacks some features such as the ability to send the information to the Contacts database on your iPhone, but you can add those features by paying an additional $1.99 as an in-app purchase. The app then lets you send that information to your main Contacts database, or you can just save it within the app itself. ABBYY Business Card Reader is a $4.99 app that does what you would guess from the name it takes a picture of a business card, performs optical character recognition to read the text on the business card without you having to manually type it all in, smartly determines the fields applicable to the text (name, phone number, e-mail address, etc.) and then saves the information in a contact entry. More often, I get business cards from people who I don't really want to add to my Contacts, such as vendors, but it is useful to keep the contact information someplace just to remember that I met them in case I do need to contact them in the future. Some business cards are from people who I want to add to the Contacts on my iPhone/iPad, so I'll want to take the time to enter all of the information from the card by hand. and business cards tend to fall into that category. There are still times when paper is more convenient, but the last thing that I want in my life is unnecessary paper. Thanks to the iPhone and iPad, I've managed to keep much of my law practice paperless. If you have any questions about this, just send me an e-mail or post a comment on a specific product review. Often, I will also provide my own commentary on the product, and while my goal is to be honest, please keep in mind that I was compensated to promote the product. ![]() When I discuss products from these companies on iPhone J.D., I do so to pass along information provided to me by the sponsor. (4) Some of the ads that run on this website are from monthly sponsors of iPhone J.D. Other ads are from paid advertisers, and if I discuss a product from a company that is a current advertiser, I will note that. If one of these ads comes from the seller of a product reviewed on iPhone J.D., that is a coincidence and I do not believe that it colors my review of that product. (3) Some of the ads that run on this website are selected by others such as Amazon or Google. Again, I do not believe that I let that color my review of products. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. (2) When I post links to product pages on certain stores, including but not limited to Amazon and the iTunes App Store, my links include a referral code so that when products are purchased after clicking on the link, I often receive a very small percentage of the sale. I sometimes keep and continue to use these products that I did not pay for after posting my review, which might be considered a form of compensation for my review, but I do not believe that I let that color my review. There’s no doubt this is a great app, and yes there are others out there, but not that are as accurate, and with such rich features – and at $4.99 it’s reasonably priced too.Pursuant to 16 CFR Part 255, the Federal Trade Commission's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising, please note: (1) iPhone software and hardware developers routinely send me free versions of their products to review. So your contact is now in the Address Book in the time it took you to put the card back in your wallet, what else could you want? How about the ability to look that person up on FaceBook, Twitter or LinkedIn…. ![]() Now that’s all well and good, but then what? The one thing that stands out on this app is not only the scanning quality, but also when it’s OCR’d the card it highlights any characters it believes may be ambiguous. – BCR can capture data from business cards in 20 languages. – Captured data can be merged with an existing contact – Unreliably captured characters are highlighted – Instant search in LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter – CardHolder is a special archive of business card images along with their recognized data BCR allows users to capture contact information from business cards directly into the mobile address book and find more information about your contacts in Facebook, Twitter or on the Map! Some are tied to larger applications, some integrate to other products, but few accurately OCR your contacts business cards.ĬoolSmartPhone would like to present to you ABBYY Business Card Reader (BCR) for the iPhone. There are many business card apps out there. ![]()
